EXCELTA, a family-owned distributor and manufacturer of tweezers, pliers, cutters, and other small assembly hand tools based in Buellton, is looking for a Second Shift Lead Manufacturing Technician.

This position is a working lead or working supervisor role, in which you will have responsibility for the safety and productivity of the team, in addition to the proper use and maintenance of the company’s equipment and resources. The supervisor/lead work includes: monitoring attendance, training and coaching technicians, addressing performance issues, correcting errors and quality issues, motivating the team to do their best work. The individual work may include: assembling fabricated parts at floor stations, using hand tools and power tools to assemble units according to product specifications, honing tools as they come off the grinders, deburring and performing secondary grinding on the Okamoto if required, testing and calibrating parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications, performing inspection of parts, using inspection measurement tools micrometeors, calipers, depth micrometeors and gage pins.  identifying units that fail tests or tolerance levels and repairing as necessary.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Machine parts to specifications using milling machines.
  • Measure and examine completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Follow prepared instructions outlining methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products.
  • Select the appropriate tools and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Perform minor preventive maintenance.
  • Confer with numerical control programmers to check and ensure that new programs will function properly, and that output will meet specifications.
  • Recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.
  • Familiar with machine calibrations and console settings to perform operations.
  • Must have experience with tolerances (+/-.003) and ability to make exact tolerances.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:

  • High school diploma required, Associate’s Degree or Machinist certification strongly preferred.
  •  A minimum of 2 years of experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment with experience
  • Preferred experience working with CNC Mill, CNC lathes and/or CNC mill-turn.
  • Must be able to use and interpret precision measuring equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience exercising independent judgement and knowing when to request help. 
  • Knowledge of precision production tools and equipment.
  • Strong leadership qualities and 2 years experience managing schedules, workflow safety and personnel, holding others accountable to productivity and quality standards, company protocols and policies.
  • Read, write and speak English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills (email, Word, Excel, ERP /software systems) and math skills.
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and as part of a team. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  •  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  •  The employee is constantly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands and arms to handle and reach.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

POSITION DETAILS:
This is a full-time non-exempt position that is required to be onsite full-time on the second shift. The work schedule is Monday – Thursday, four 10-hour shifts, 1:30pm-Midnight in Buellton, CA. Salary Range $22.50 - $30.00 / hour. We offer a full benefits package including medical insurance and 401k.
