Lead Free!

Lead Free! Everyone seems to be talking about Lead Free these days. Lead Free is only a small part of the RoHS directive that goes into effect July 1, 2006. The RoHS directive restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. The RoHS regulations ban the placing, on the EU market, of new Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) containing more than the set levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium and both polybrominated biphenyl and poly brominated diphenyl ether flame retardants after July 1, 2006.

Excelta’s interpretation of the RoHS directive as pertaining to our products is that most Excelta products do not contain electrical or electronic components either for functionality or as peripheral parts. Excelta tweezers, pliers, diagonal cutters, hooks, picks, loupes, scissors and brushes do not fall within the scope of the directive and the RoHS regulations do not apply.

You should refer to the Regulations themselves for a full statement of the legal requirements and in the case of any doubt take independent advice, including your own legal advice.
